What is beam and block flooring?

slider1

Highly durable, versatile and economical, beam and block concrete flooring is a useful method of constructing floors in any type of building. Read on to find out more about this useful flooring method.

What is a beam and block floor?

Traditional beam and block flooring involves laying precast and prestressed concrete beams across or between walls at carefully calculated distances (the maximum distance that can be left unsupported is 4.2m). The gaps are then filled with concrete blocks.

This kind of flooring is typically used to produce high-quality ground and upper floors in residential and industrial buildings. It is a particularly versatile flooring method, as the concrete T-beams can be cut to different lengths depending on the needs of each individual project.

Benefits of beam and block flooring

There are many benefits of using beam and block flooring for your construction project. One of the main advantages is that because they are built using pre-prepared concrete T-beams, they are incredibly fast to install, especially when compared to wet poured concrete floors. As all the materials needed are dry, once the floor has been laid it can be used straight away, minimising disruption to business. Due to its speedy installation, this type of flooring is a highly cost-effective choice.

What’s more, beam and block flooring is extremely durable and hard wearing, perfect for busy warehouses and yards where heavy machinery and traffic are constant challenges. It is also unaffected by cold or wet weather so it will continue to perform well even in sweltering heat or excessive cold and won’t develop any mould or rot.  As an added bonus, beam and block concrete floors have a high level of sound and thermal insultation and fire resistance so not only will it help keep your building environmentally friendly and quiet, it also helps improve safety.
