The different concrete floor finishes

slider1

Highly durable and incredibly strong, concrete is a fantastic flooring material, but did you know that it can be finished in a number of different ways depending on your needs? The concrete experts at LGW, the South’s leading concrete contractors, run through your different options so you can pick the perfect one.

Brush concrete finish

A brush finished floor is created by running a broom-like device across the wet concrete surface to leave a textured surface of fine lines of various size depending on the intended use of the floor. It’s a popular concrete floor finish for outdoor areas that receive moderate levels of vehicle and foot traffic.

The benefits of brush concrete flooring

  • Rough surface reduces risk of slips
  • Provides a safe walking surface when wet
  • Improves traction for vehicles
  • Easy to maintain
  • More cost-effective than stamped concrete finishes

Tamped concrete finish

Achieved by moving a tamping beam up and down in quick succession over the concrete before it’s fully cured, a tamped finish leaves horizontal grooves in the flooring, usually spaced between 20 – 30mm apart and measuring 5mm in height. Tamped concrete floors are often installed in areas where extra grip is required and that are exposed to a high volume of water, such as farm yards, loading areas and car parks.

Benefits of tamped concrete finishes

  • Fantastic anti-slip properties increasing safety
  • Great for use on inclines where additional grip is essential
  • Improves drainage of the area when installed correctly
  • Durable and strong surface that can handle large volumes of traffic

Power floated concrete finish

Power float concrete is achieved by a machine that perfectly smooths, compacts and levels concrete using special rotating circular blades. This method ensures the concrete is incredibly durable and reduces the risk of plastic shrinkage and cracking. Power floated concrete is ideal for a range of sectors including manufacturing, garages and retail.

Benefits of power floated concrete

  • Reduces risk of shrinkage and cracking
  • Highly durable, waterproof surface
  • Easy to maintain and clean
  • Attractive smooth and glossy finish

Laser screed concrete finish

A laser screed concrete finish is achieved using state-of-the-art machinery that vibrates up to 4000 times a minute in order to compact the concrete while maintaining its smoothness. The result is an unrivalled, perfectly level surface that’s incredibly hard-wearing.  It’s a popular choice for those who need a completely flat surface over a large area, such as warehouses and manufacturing facilities.

Benefits of laser screed concrete

  • Produces perfectly flat floors quickly
  • Cost effective method of installing concrete floors over a large area
  • Highly durable and hard-wearing surface
  • Can be installed quickly to minimise downtime
