Our guide to concrete flooring finishes
Did you know that you can choose from a range of different concrete flooring finishes? Discover which finish is right for you with this handy guide to some of our most popular options.
Power float finish concrete floor
This finish is produced using a specialist machine fitted with a large circular pan or flat metal float (hence the name) that is used to smooth, recompact and level the concrete floor. The rotating blades buff the surface of the concrete, resulting in a highly polished and attractive surface.
Highly practical and efficient, power floating eliminates the need to apply a screed finish to the concrete floor and is perfect for industrial use as it creates an extremely hard-wearing floor that takes heavy traffic in its stride. It’s also waterproof so any spillages are easy to clean.
Brushed finish concrete floor
A brushed finish is created by dragging a purpose-made brush over the surface of the concrete floor once it’s been levelled to produce a textured appearance. The final texture of the floor depends on the material, size and shape of the brushes’ tuft, so you are able to choose the best solution to suit your business.
The rough surface of a brushed concrete floor improves the safety of your workers and/or customers as it reduces the risk of slips. It also helps drainage and water run-off which is particularly useful for surfaces that often get wet, like those of a garden centre or outside yard.
Tamped finish concrete floor
A tamped concrete floor is created by moving a tamping beam along the surface of the concrete before it has fully cured. It can be incredibly difficult to achieve an even finish with a tamped concrete floor so it’s advisable to ensure a professional completes the work. The horizontal grooves created by tampering greatly improve grip which is particularly useful for surfaces on outside slopes that are likely to get slippery from rainfall. What’s more, when done properly, the grooves help improve drainage.
