5 unusual uses for concrete blocks

slider1

Concrete blocks are great for a range of different uses in the construction industry, but did you know they also make great materials for building items around the home? So, if you have spare or old blocks leftover from a project, why not repurpose them by taking inspiration from our list of unusual uses for concrete blocks?

1)    Reuse concrete blocks as flowerpots

Concrete blocks with holes in them are ideal for repurposing as flowerpots. Simply lie the block on its side, fill with soil and your favourite plant. By reusing spare or old blocks in this way, you’re keeping waste to a minimum and ensuring resources are used over and over again.

2)    A funky concrete block bench

For a totally different, and really easy to build, garden bench, all you need to do is stack the concrete blocks in two L shape’s to form the supports, attach wooden beams or pallets to form the seat and finish with lots of comfy cushions. You can even get creative and paint the side of the concrete blocks to make an even more impressive feature.

3)    Warm up around a concrete block fire pit

Match your concrete block bench with a concrete block fire pit to create the ultimate outside space in which to relax with loved ones. Dig a shallow hole, carefully line it with concrete blocks and sand and you’ll be ready to toast marshmallows long into the night.

4)    Alterative shelf supports

The attractive grey colour of concrete blocks is ideal for those looking to create contemporary living spaces that you don’t see every day. A clever way to incorporate this into your home is to use them as supports for shelving. Contrast the cool grey colour of the concrete with a brightly coloured shelf to make the most of this interesting feature.

5)    Serve your favourite drinks over a concrete block bar

If you’ve ever dreamed of having your very own bar in your garden, concrete blocks are an easy, cost effective way to build your own. Stack the blocks to the desired width and height and top with a polished wooden board. If you have hollow blocks, turn every other one by 90° and plant a small flower or shrub inside for natural decoration.
